Post-Graduate Volunteer Opportunity

lasallian.volunteers.logo.pngOne way to stay involved with the Lasallian mission after graduation from Manhattan College is to serve as a Lasallian Volunteer.

Lasallian Volunteers is a post-graduate year-long service program, which places people in Lasallian ministries across the United States. LVs serve in school-based settings in teaching roles as well as tutors, campus ministers and service learning coordinators, gym teachers, music and art teachers, computer teachers and after-school coordinators. Other options available include serving in adventure based recreation with court adjudicated youth, social work, and a “one-stop shop” to meet the needs of housing, clothing and food for the local neighborhood. 

LVs live in a faith-based community with one another and De La Salle Christian Brothers, receive a monthly stipend and health insurance, and take part in daily prayer, community meals, and outings.

  • Lasallian Volunteer Scholars at Manhattan College

    LV Scholars are Lasallian Volunteer alumni who are currently enrolled in one of Manhattan College’s graduate degree programs.  

    In lieu of their commitment to the Lasallian Mission as a long-term volunteer for two or more years in a Lasallian ministry and in conjunction with a graduate assistantship on campus, these individuals are granted the opportunity to attend Manhattan College on scholarship funding through the Office of Mission.  

    LV Scholars are expected to share their great knowledge of the Lasallian mission with students, faculty, and staff while also recruiting current students for the Lasallian Volunteer program.

    Rachel Bowers, Lasallian Volunteer 2016-2019

    Photograph of Rachel BowersPhiladelphia native, Rachel Bowers, who served three years as a Lasallian Volunteer, is the current Lasallian Ambassador Graduate Assistant for the Office of Mission and is also a graduate student in the School Counseling program.  Having graduated from Penn State Abington in 2016, Lasallian Volunteers was Rachel’s first exposure to Lasallian education. 

    Rachel served as an LV for two years in Tulsa, Oklahoma at San Miguel School of Tulsa.  While at her site, she was able to support her middle school students and their families by coordinating the academic support program, serving as the full-time P.E. teacher, and creating extracurricular opportunities for students such as organizing field trips, retreats, and clubs. Rachel felt called to a third year as a Lasallian Volunteer and headed out to Tucson, Arizona.  In Tucson, Rachel organized opportunities for students to get involved in helping the local community by coordinating the Lasallian Youth program. In addition, she worked with the VP of Academics in organizing the school-wide electives program.  

    When asked if Rachel would encourage students to become a Lasallian Volunteer, she says of her experience, “Serving at any of the Lasallian ministries would be an eye opening, life-changing, and unforgettable experience for a post-graduate who is looking to volunteer. Be open to opportunities where you may be serving a new culture, living in a part of the country you would have never expected to, or generally stepping outside of your comfort zone, because ultimately, like myself, you will discover your true self and who God wants you to be in the process.”
